Teaser Nuance Note on Ketogenic Diets and FGF-21, Does a ketogenic diet increase FGF-21 sensitivity? Interestingly, while it appears protein restriction on a 4:1 ketogenic diet (90% fat) increases FGF-21 in animals, data in humans aren’t as compelling. However, based on the available data, it’s reasonable to speculate this may be in part because ketogenic are classically associated with weight loss and may simultaneously increase FGF-21 sensitivity via upregulation of β-klotho and other receptors and components of FGF-21 signaling pathways.
